Nana Akosua Frimpomaa, the Chair and Leader of the Convention People’s Party has joined the family of Emeritus Professor George Kwabena Effah Benneh, the former Vice- Chancellor of the University of Ghana at his final Funeral Rights at the holy spirit cathedral.
The President of the republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo- Addo and several high profile dignitaries of state , Diplomats , The Clergy, Friends and well wishers filed to pay their final respect to one of Ghana’s decorated and industrious son Prof. Benneh.
Speaking to the press, Nana Frimpomaa related that Professor Benny had served his country well and left a positive legacy for generations. The chairperson of the party asked Ghanaians to emulate the selfless spirit of Professor Benneh.
George Benneh was born on 6th March 1934 at Brekum in the Brong Ahafo Region. Until his demise on the 11th of February 2021, Emeritus Professor George Kwabena Effah Benneh was a Ghanaian academic and university administrator who served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Legon from 1992 to 1996.
He was a professor and later an emeritus professor of Geography and Resource Development at the same university.
Prof in his youthful life was a success in academics and athletics. At age 14 he led Achimota Athetics Team to win 800 yard- race. Prof Benneh also captained the University of Ghana Athletic Team.
Prof Benneh was survived by 6 children and 17 grand children.
