After a 3-day tour in the north as part of mother’s day celebration with branded ‘witches and wizards’, Nana Akosua Frimpomaa, the chair and leader of the Convention People’s Party has stated emphatically that Ghana’s social welfare system is dead.
Nana Frimpomaa broke down severally seeing the devastated presentation of innocent women branded as witches.
‘What is the essence of government if it cannot provide even the basic needs of vulnerable and marginalized groups’? She quized. If government continue it’s modus operandi but expect new result then we have failed as a country and it’s a shame, she added. Resources of state cannot continue to the preserve of just few party gurus, friends and family, every Ghanaian matter and I charge government to fix the social welfare institution.
Nana Frimpomaa who doubles as the queen mother of Dormaa Traditional Area thanked the chiefs of Gambaga and Gnani for providing a safe haven and care for the over 350 women and 88 men branded as witches and wizards. She said her outfit as the chair and leader of the CPP in collaboration with her NGO – Caring Kids International will provide special care for needy and vulnerable women in the camps. She also adopted a young boy whose mother has been chased out of her home and forced to dwell in the witch camp.
Mothers at the camp recieved cloth, personal protective equipment, drinks and biscuits as part of the mother’s day celebration.
