Abibata Mahama is a Strategic Choice to Represent Yendi as Parliamentary Candidate for NPP – Survey Report

In the wake of events leading to the election of parliamentary candidate to represent the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2024 elections, GhPress sampled public opinion on which candidate merits Yendi constituency as Parliamentary Candidate and why?

Here are five reasons why the people of Yendi think Hajia Abibata Mahama, a woman with multi-disciplinary skills set and competence should represent the Yendi constituency in parliament:

  1. Gender Equity and Representation: Historically, women have been underrepresented in politics, and having Hajia Abibata representing the Yendi constituency would help address this imbalance. It would encourage gender equity and enable women’s voices and perspectives to be more effectively heard and represented in the decision-making process.
  2. Women’s issues and Empowerment: Hajia Abibata representative in parliament would better understand and advocate for the specific challenges faced by women in the Yendi constituency. She will promote policies and initiatives focused on women’s empowerment, gender-based violence prevention, healthcare, education, and economic opportunities that cater to the needs of women. Interestingly, Hajia Abibata has supported series of projects in yendi especially funding over 1000 farmers.
  3. Cultural sensitivity and inclusivity: The Yendi constituency is ethnically diverse, with various tribes and cultures present. A woman representative would bring a unique understanding of cultural sensitivities and be more inclusive in addressing the concerns and aspirations of all constituents, fostering harmony and unity among different communities. This traits has already been established by Hajia Abibata Shanni Mohammed.
  4. Education and Youth development: Investing in education and youth development is crucial for the progress of any constituency. over the past 10 years Hajia Abibata has sponsored schools with educational materials and dual desk. She has supplied girls with sanitary kits to boost their confidence during menstruation and sustained their mothers with soft loans for sustenance. She has prioritized educational initiatives, skills training, and job opportunities specifically targeting young girls and women, helping break the cycle of poverty and promoting social mobility.
  5. Peacebuilding and conflict resolution: The Yendi constituency has witnessed conflicts and chieftancy disputes in the past. Hajia Abibata as representative in Parliament will play a significant role in peacebuilding efforts, using her non-confrontational approach, empathy, and consensus-building skills to promote dialogue, understanding, and reconciliation among various groups, fostering a stable and harmonious constituency.
