The National Identification Authority
whose mandate is to establish a national data center – a system that collect, process, store, retrieve and disseminate personal data on the population (Ghanaian citizens – both resident and non-resident, legally and permanently) is offering Ghanaian Citizenship Identity Card for sale to the highest bidder starting at 250 cedis.

Millions of Ghanaians have expressed worry over the monitisation of such essential national ID meant for only Ghanaians which will remain the only State Identity required by law for all official operations. As it is, many Ghanaians have allerged that foreign nations have managed to pay various sums of money to acquire the Ghana Card, an allegation fueled by the monitisation of the free card by management of NIA.
Millions of Ghanaians who genuinely registered for Ghana Card have still not recieved these cards after several months and years. In the name of premium service, NIA officials at the head office charge 250 cedis to 1000 cedis for registration processes, smart moves and instant card.

Views sampled by GhPress suggest that some NIA staff deliberately retain ID Cards to compel owners to Pay illigal Fees to Claim.
Cecelia Ezoa, Human Resource Director at the NIA head office in an interview with GhPress confirmed the various charges for the Ghana Cards adding that the fees charged are backed by a legislative instrument through a parliamentary approval.
One can understand why a lot of supposed foreign national especially Nigerians have bought Ghana Citizenship Rights by paying for the Ghana Card.
Common questions asked by Ghanaians is that: How come the so called parliamentary approval for Sale of Ghana Cards wasn’t in the open for public discuss? Could it be smuggled into Parliament for rubber Stamp? Is it one of the numerous Chop-chop channels? Many have expressed the view that, this is just not right. Ghana Card should be free and issued legitimately to only Ghanaian.
To this end, Ghanaians are asking the Audit Service to make available how much money has been taken from Ghana Card applicants.
